Lexus has been giving BMW and Mercedes a run for their money for some time now. In 2006 Lexus introduced the GS300. The outstanding tear-drop-shaped exterior is impressively sleek and powerful, confirming Lexus's ability of creating some very moving car designs. Certainly the Lexus's GS300 has what it takes.
With a 10% increase in unibody stiffneness, massive levels of grip and a hot 3.0 liter V6 pumpimg out an invigorating 183 kW of power through a silky six-speed automatic transmission, the Lexus GS300 knows how to stimulate your drving pleasure. Progress is very swift as the engine swings up, without hesitation, to the 6500-rpm redline. With a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 7.2 seconds there isn't much that will get in your way. On the road the Lexus GS300 is a superbly controlled and nimble performer, and as you sit inside the GS300 cabin you remain very relaxed and very comfortable in some of the best seats available outside of your living room. Even with the top performance on offer the highly sophisticated Lexus remains frugal, with well under 10 litres per 100 km very achievable.
Lexus knows luxury and they pack a considerable amount into the GS300. Radar-based cruise control watches your speed and applies the brakes if a collison is imminent. Add to that the electrically assisted steering which automatically corrects for wind gust and stability issues. The interior boasts French-stitched leather seats, fine woodwork, a total of 8 airbags and a cool 7" touch screen built into the dash for navigation. There is even a 330 watt high output stereo sporting 14 speakers! And, you can even get XM/Sirius satellite radio.
Hopefully the all-wheel-drive version which features a computer controlled limited slip differential will be available to the Australian new car buyer in the near future. However, the RWD GS300 is a cracking drive regardless. To sum up, the Lexus GS300 is a finely crafted luxury sedan...with teeth. Take a look for yourself and be impressed.
