Honda is a Japanese make of car. However, with the new Honda Accord Euro, they have tried to produce a car that has all the style, finesse and quality of a classic European drive as well as Asian reliability. You could call this car "Eurasian" if that didn't conjure up images of odd, quirky and obscure vehicles from the former Soviet Republic. Because the Honda Accord Euro is not odd, not quirky and is definitely not obscure.
For a start off, the Honda Accord Euro has won a huge range of awards, from being voted New Zealand Car of the Year in 2003 to being named the BBC's Top Gear Medium Car of the Year.
In the Honda Accord Euro, the nose and xenon lights (in the Honda Accord Euro Luxury model; the basic version has halogen lights) are sharply pointed and give a very clear message of speed and purpose. The fresh look makes the Euro look a little different from other car marques and is class leading. Chrome trim and alloy wheels complete the sophisticated package.
Sink into the voluptuous embraces of the seats - either cloth trim for the standard Honda Accord Euro and leather for the Luxury model - and you'll be looking at a very well-appointed interior. Dual zone climate control makes your ride comfortable, while the classy 6 speaker audio system that incorporates an AM/FM tuner with a 6-CD in-dash stacker is a pleasure to listen to and easy to control with the steering-wheel mounted audio controls. Cruise control is standard on both versions, as is the 10 amp power outlet and the multi-information display screen that even monitors the outside temperature.
The sleek and swift styling of the Honda Accord Euro is matched with the higher rated 2.4 litre engine that develops 140 kW at 6800 rpm and has on tap 223Nm of torque at 4500rpm. A refined 5 speed semi automatic is available in the Honda Accord Euro, but the 6 speed manual transmission is quick. The Honda Accord Euro runs up to a surefooted 141 mph. A 0-62 mph time of 8 seconds shows that this car is made for driving with lots of verve, and the sports suspension set up is magnificent under pressure. With the Smart 17 inch alloys being shod with 225/45 rubber, and the sports suspension, this car feels like it is on rails. Economy is good too, with a combined figure of 31.4 mpg.
The fabulous Honda Accord Euro grabbed my attention when I first saw it turning at the lights. It is a gorgeous design and I have no doubt this is one very successful and desirable car. I will add that I would love to see the diesel powered Honda Accord be made available to the Australian and New Zealand buyer. Europe has this joy. I've heard it's a goodie - with it's Honda Accord Euro styling and over 130 mph potential as well as a combined economy figure of 51.4 mpg, it should be. Even so, the petrol Honda Accord Euro we have over here is pretty darn good - excellent, in fact.
