BMW M6 Convertible

Rated as one of the best drives in Europe, the BMW M6 now has convertible fun to add to the magnificent on-road dynamics of this V10 motor-sport German gem.

 

They say that the sun is wonderful for many things. If you consider whipping your top off and lying in the sun for half an hour is a good thing, it’s amazing just how good getting a shot of vitamin D actually is. I don’t know if this was ever a reason for BMW building the BMW M6 Convertible, but it doesn’t really matter because who doesn’t like a bit of topless fun every now and then? Exposure to the sun makes sure the skin is bright, healthy looking and nicely elastic (as long as you don't overdo it), so screaming down the highway in BMW’s M6 convertible does your skin a lot of good! 

 

They say a happy heart is good for you too, and there will be heaps of smiles on your dial that will well up from within as the mighty V10 engine of the M6 slings you across the Aussie countryside at great haste. Even the lightest touch on the accelerator is enough for the engine to show its immense power. The five-litre capacity boasts a 373 kW engine that produces a performance on the open road like no other car can. Maximum revs reach an impressive figure of 7750 rpm so plant the boot and feel the incredible acceleration that seems almost endless. A zero to one hundred time of just 4.8 seconds is nothing short of exhilarating. 

 

At the push of a button, the roof folds away neatly and you are out in the open air with nothing between you and the harmonious bellow of one of the world’s finest engines. Inside the highly designed and engineered V10 engine is, in fact, ten engines comprising of ten individual intake trumpets, ten throttles, ten cylinders, ten coils/spark plugs, ten knock sensors and ten individual exhaust headers.  The engine design was built and used by BMW for Formula One Racing. As the engine was made obsolete by the FIA's 2006-season rule book, BMW decided to make the M6 V10 engine available to production cars – and boy, am I glad they did!

 

The BMW M6 Convertible doesn’t come cheap, but what did you expect with this sort of racing pedigree and exotic flavour? Superbly distinctive, the BMW M6 Convertible is well equipped and comes with a number of high-end features. Some of the extra options like: keyless entry, Heads Up Display and Indianapolis Red Merino leather will add a little extra dollars to the final price. 

 

On the open road the M6 Convertible powers through corners and up hills like a bull-at-a-gate. There really is no lack of power at any stage on the open road, and the Servotronic steering offers brilliant feedback and feel. The suspension boasts a three-mode EDC (electronic damper control) unit which smooths out the rough undulations exceptionally well. The ride is firm and extremely sporty, and the brakes haul the hefty weight of the BMW M6 Convertible in effortlessly –just the way you need it in a car as fast as this one. BMW have shod the topless M6 with 255/40ZR19 tyres at the front; and 285/35ZR19 tyres at the rear. It’s nice to report that the handling limits of this car are so far beyond what the average driver could really be confident, in themselves, to run to. 

 

A paddle shifting, seven-speed gearbox joins the road and the force of the M6 V10 engine. Slick and quick shifting allows the car to be put through its paces with ease. 

 

Safety is paramount and therefore things like ABS  (Anti Lock Brakes), ESP (Electronic Stability Control) Dynamic Stability Control, front seat belt pretensioners, a driver airbag and passenger airbag, and front side airbags are all standard items in a car like this.
