BMW has an exceptional new seven series model that has the balance just right between awesome luxury and outstanding performance.
Cast your eye over the long, gleaming bonnet, the glorious solid waistline and the sexy rear haunches of the wide hipped seven series and you get the blend of silky elegance and raunchy performance all wrapped up into a premium German package. The nose is beautiful, yet aggressive, and the big car sits on massive low profile tyres that boast gorgeous mags. In any rear vision mirror the big bold kidney grille is very intimidating, and sits lower and larger than before. The one piece air dam adds to the BMW 750i sporty presence.
Open the solid doors which swing open with ease, and the instant first impression is one of fabulous luxury and comfort. The dash is wrapped in leather, the doors have a leather covering and the seats are of sexy, supportive form. The cabin is a place sure to impress not only the driver but all relaxed and pampered passengers as well. The use of chrome is not too intense, as is the case on many upmarket marques, and the centre console is not so detailed that you need a three hour lecture, prior to entering the cockpit, on where to find the climate control. Leg room is exceptional, as is seat comfort and stereo clarity. An alarm, 20-way powered front seats, air con, rear and side view cameras and keyless entry are all inconsequential standard features in a car of this calibre. In other words, the car is loaded with features – as you should expect. This writer’s “way-cool” features are the heated steering wheel, soft closing doors and ventilated seats.
To drive, the car is so superb. The ride is “carpet-like”, whisper quiet and taut. Take corners at speed, and the grip levels are exceptional. The electronic suspension actively counters the body roll.
The BMW 750iL model has an extra five inches in length and is evident once seated in the rear seats. There is a bucket load of legroom.
In about five seconds, the 0-100 km/h gallop is cleaned up. And the twin-turbo V8 kicks up a storm with 300 kW of power on tap. This is a car that is noticeably quicker than Lexus and Mercedes Benz equivalents.
Very safe and solidly built.
The current model series includes:
