Big and roomy, the Audi A6 2.0 TDI has practicality alongside its good looks to make it a highly desirable and relaxed tourer.

Australia is lucky to have a wide range of diesel transport options when it comes to the commercial fleet and private fleet needs. Even small diesel engines can more than hold their own against equivalent petrol alternatives on the open road.
The Audi A6 line-up has many variants available to it. The petrol engine range starts at 2.4 litres and goes up to 3.2 and 4.2 litres. There are also 3.0 and 2.7 litre diesels. But starting the diesel variants is the highly commended 2.0 TDI - and it happens to be a lot more than just a base model!
Certainly, 105 kW doesn’t seem hugely powerful, and may even sound inadequate for a car weighing in at nearly 1.6 tonnes, but diesels make up for their lack of top-end power with far more mid-range muscle than petrol engines. So when you hit the open road speeds, the Audi A6 2.0 TDI has all the power you need for very swift and composed travel that you will ever need. Through its six-speed manual gearbox, the 2.0 TDI hits 100 km/h from a standstill in 10.3 seconds. Continue to give the engine plenty of herbs, and you find that the top speed for the Audi A6 2.0 TDI well exceeds 200 km/h. Strong torque in excess of 300 Nm through out the mid-range makes for excellent hill climbs and punchy passing manoeuvres. The 2.0 litre, four-cylinder, turbo-diesel unit revs quietly and strongly all the way to the red line. Copious amounts of rip, and a ride that is cosseting rather then jolting, and you find the Audi A6 2.0 TDI is highly pleasurable to drive. You can also expect top fuel economy. Tests proved the average fuel economy of the big A6 2.0 TDI to be in the mid forties for mpg units or, if you are like me, this equates to a little over 6 litres/100 km. It’s easy on the environment too. The big sedan boasts an excellent 169 grams of CO2 emissions per kilometre.
There are plenty of toys to play with inside the A6 2.0 TDI, as the vehicle is very well equipped. Standard equipment includes cruise control, a high output CD player, electric front and rear windows, climate control and rain sensing wipers. The seats are supportive without being too hard, and legroom is excellent for those confined to the back bench.
Does it stack up well against the competition? Definitely; as few cars can match Audi build quality, A6 space, elegant design and fuel efficiency. The price is right too. Without being excessive, I could easily see a young executive family seated in one of these well priced machines. Ok, there maybe a few Japanese marques a little cheaper. But are they as nice? Not so sure on that one! The Audi A6 has the desirable badge on the bonnet, and it’s so stylish, well-built and well-equipped too.
